Love Poem

VINCENT FRANK DE BENEDETTO

You and Me

I bought

Cookies

Chocolate

Chip

Cheap

On sale

I didn't check

They were stale

Out of date

Yet

still on the shelf

No biggie

Just more

Of the

Blackmail

The ruling class

Visits

Upon us

Lucifers

Tale

You look like

You saw a ghost

So pale

Liberal

Capitalist

Democracy

Now

An

Epic fail

I do

Vent

Rage

Rant

And rail

Against

The machine

Vent

My spleen

Adult

Or teen

Buy nothing

Sight

unseen

Resuming Windows

Remusing thin

Ideas

And notions

The nations

In search

Of something

More clear

Our morality

In arrears

Living

With fear

Every generation

With hopes

Skirting

The

Strat

osphere

Bending

Beautiful

Musical

Tones

Man

Must

Love

Make

No bones

About it

Hope

Skirting

What

Is possible

In a

Hoop skirt

Reality

That kind

Of flirt

Teasing

Us

With what

Could be

Will knot

Cannot

Foresee

Our

Utopian dreams

Will flee

Without

The generative

Power

And

Regenerative

Purpose

Of

Working together

You

And

Me

Would, Man

we have fallen from the grace

that Man can be

perhaps ne'er to arise

nor

ever flee

our clear and present dogma

in favor of the feline

traversing

tree-lined

and apparently

pacific

street

purring at us

so

favorably

her slender black whiskers

pointing us

knowingly

toward

brotherhood

showing you

showing me

whisking us away

custer's last stand

for ego, profit, and pain

our primal brain

primordial

heart

finally

discover a new fire

love

a new start

for humanity

and each other

sister

and brother

each and every

one and all

walking

tall

hand in hand

from out in the cold

and misfortune foretold

as slaves to a penny

enter a grand

and wondrous hall

immersed in love

and duly enthralled

welcoming and warm

heart of Man

transformed

changed forever

grown

from shamefully small

to infinite proportion

every human distortion

distilled

into purity

every door

now unlocked

ready weaponry

with a tear

and new absence of fear

decocked

our systems of slavery

with a tear

and new absence of fear

every worker

every human

declocked

every dream of Man

might now be

through love

and love alone

can we

should we

must we

have we

we have

we must

in the end

we turn to dust

the question is

what have we left

what have we been

what have we done

to bring light and love

and eradicate sin

you here

you there

and me

no longer apart

and alone

but

finally

come home

together

life become

what it could

never have been

without love:

music

and

poem

About

LOVE POEM is a book-length poem, presently under development, by writer and pioneering political philosopher Vincent Frank De Benedetto.

It is extended, multipart verse around Love, Brotherly Love, specifically. Called Agape [uh gop' ay] in the language of Greek philosophy, Mr. De Benedetto states:

"Love, properly understood, is the most powerful social force available to humankind."

The above two pieces above may appear in the finished work.

An unrelated piece, Summer, an homage to actress and model Summer Glau in poetry and prose, including an exploration of the social and technological relevance of her powerful portrayal of a humanoid AI in Terminator:  The Sarah Connor Chronicles, resides at its own site Glaumage.com [temp. down].

QUICK MORNING POEMS

LOVE & LIGHT

New paradigm

Paradise

By the dashboard

Light

Feel the lows

Scale the heights

Do the right thing

Spike was right

Fight or flight

Pants too tight

Come on

Lose

That weight

Gonna

Feel great

Create

And sustain

Your fire

Burning

Bright

Always

Keep the goal

In sight

Love

and Light

SOMETHING IN ME DIED

When someone

cried

Something in me

Died

When someone lied

Something in me

Died

When someone

Could not

Abide

The rule of love

Even when push

Came to shove

When love did not appear

In its stead

Mortal fear

Ego

And pride

something in me died

When someone

Shied

Away

From love

Never even tried

Simply

Sought to hide

Wouldn't take my side

Nor likely

Anyone else

Something in me died

Heartstrings

Only loosely tied

My own love

Of others

Seems

River wide

Well

I tried

I hope you did

And do

As well

As the world

With love

Is absolute heaven

While, without

Unquestionable

Damnable

hell
